Notes from Rachna:
“When I was younger, I always imagined a timeless nutcracker executed with perfect pirouettes and plies — I idolized the Western interpretation of art.
However, both mum and dad pushed me to pursue the classical forms. While my infatuation with European expression continues. I would later appreciate the subtle, spiritual, and empowering nature of the classical Indian art forms.
Bharatnatyam helps me make sense of the world; our politics, feelings and passions. The inherent spiritual and political nature of the Indian classical arts continues to inspire me; I have found valuable lessons in its history and made sense of the future in its rhythms and multifaceted layers.
Perhaps the most profound lesson: “Art is the lie that tells the truth.”
